Atze Music Theatre is located at a very busy street in Berlin-Wedding. The acoustic environment of the theatre has its own rhythm – we have the traffic lights of Luxemburger Straße, the theatres daily programm of plays and rehearsals, the beginning and end of events at the nearby Beuth University. All this produces rhythmical patterns. The sound installation at the theatres facade takes over the rhythms of the street and creates a contradiction to the soundscapes around there.
Depending on the daytime the facade is turning into a wall of different soundscapes and sonic pulses. Passersby trigger a sensor which interrupts the atmospheric soundscape with beating pulses. The soundscapes are inspired by our idea of an acoustic atmosphere of fairy tales and legends. For example you can hear rustling of leaves, screaming birds or the scary crackling of a forest.
